Putney 2019
My clients decided that this was going to be a once in a lifetime investment for the refurbishment and rear extension to this unique detached Victorian house.
Located in a conservation area, the house was built paying homage to Arts and Craft and Victorian Gothic styles. To the rear of the house there was a large extension dating from the 60s which blocked all the light to the rear basement, rendering it unusable, other than for storage and a dark, dismal bathroom.
Internally there was a beautiful winding staircase from the ground floor to the upper floors. But the layout was awkward with WCs at half landings plus an ugly 1960s stairs to the basement.
The reception rooms and bedrooms were impressive in size and detail but with an oversized master bedroom en-suite.
By removing the existing rear extension at raised ground floor level and replacing it with a more modest low extension we unlocked the lower floor rooms, which immediately allowed the the light to flood in and allowed direct access to the garden.
Our design and layout means it now flows effortlessly linking dining, kitchen and living areas. A boot room, pantry and a state-of-the-art laundry room completes the new basement layout. The basement is linked back to the upper floors with a new staircase that matches the restored Victorian original.
We completed a full refurbishment on the remainder of the house losing the awkward half landing WCs and reconfiguring a beautiful master bedroom suite.
New services included sprinklers, Lutron lighting control, Sonos and UFH all coordinated to disappear within the clean lines of the basement rooms and within historical context of the upper floors.
Collaborating very closely with my super creative clients, together we developed a pallet of interesting materials with bronze, timber, encaustic tiles and stone complimenting the existing timber stairs and chosen paint colours.
Having a strong working relationship with our excellent, professional builders and their sub-contractors meant that we completed this project with the highest quality of workmanship.
“The real testament to Peter I guess is that after 6 months of living in the house we are still admiring the details and craftsmanship every day, and also everything works! We would recommend Peter as someone you can trust to listen to you and to deliver a high quality build.” Read more
